What is Cam Matches?
Cam Matches helps you see what the surf might actually look like tomorrow.
Instead of relying only on charts and numbers, Cam Matches compares the upcoming forecast to past days with similar conditions — then shows you actual cam footage from those days so you can preview what’s likely coming.

How does Cam Matches work?
We analyze forecast conditions — including swell, wind, and tide — and compare them to historical days with similar conditions at that spot.
When we find close matches, we surface cam footage from those days so you can visually preview what the surf looked like in similar setups.
Why should I use Cam Matches?
Because sometimes you don’t just want to know the numbers — you want to see it.
If you’ve ever thought: “I’ve checked the forecast… but what’s it actually going to look like?”
Cam Matches removes the guesswork and gives you a visual reference so you can plan your session with more confidence.
Where can I find Cam Matches?
In the Surfline iOS app, Cam Matches is available on spot pages with live streaming cams.
You can access it in two places:
Live tab → Under Today’s Forecast
Forecast tab → Under any selected day
Scroll to the Cam Matches section to compare up to four matched days.
How many Cam Matches can I view?
You can compare up to four Cam Matches at a time within the forecast.
What conditions are used to create matches?
Cam Matches compares forecast factors like:
Swell size
Swell direction
Swell period
Wind speed and direction
Tide
We then identify historical days that closely align with those conditions.
Are Cam Matches exact predictions?
No — Cam Matches are visual references, not guarantees.
They show historically similar conditions to help you estimate what the surf could look like. Small differences in weather or local factors may still impact the actual outcome.
Who has access to Cam Matches?
Cam Matches is currently available to all users on the Surfline iOS app.
Why don’t I see Cam Matches at my spot?
Cam Matches requires:
Historical cam footage
Sufficient forecast data
Strong condition similarity
If a spot doesn’t have enough historical cam data or close matches, Cam Matches may not appear.
