How can I use my Apple Watch with Surfline Sessions?

Requirements

• A Surfline Premium membership. You might be eligible for a free trial if you've never joined before. Visit Surfline.com/upgrade

• Apple Watch Series 5 or greater
• An iPhone with iOS version 17 or later (iPads cannot sync with Apple Watches). Cellular not necessary. Ensure you have available storage space on your watch
• Sufficient charge on the Apple Watch to last the Session (paddle out with more than 75%)
• Either the Surfline Watch app or Dawn Patrol Watch app installed

How to connect your Apple Watch to Surfline Sessions

1. Make sure you are on the latest version of the Surfline app. If the Surfline watch app has not automatically been downloaded to your Apple Watch, install it manually following the directions in this article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204784

2. Sign in to the Surfline app

3. Allow location access for Surfline

   1. Search Surfline in your iPhone settings

   2. Select Location under ALLOW SURFLINE TO ACCESS

   3. Set to While Using the App

   4. Enable Precise Location

How to generate a Session:

1. Go to the app page on your watch, and select the Surfline app

2. When you’re ready to paddle out, hit START
   
   

3. Once your Session begins, you watch will lock into water mode

   …go surfing…

4. To exit water mode, press and hold the digital crown on your watch

5. Once unlocked, turn the digital crown to fill in the yellow circle on your watch screen - this will complete your Session
   
   
   
   

6. As soon as your watch is close to your phone, your rides will be uploaded to your Surfline iOS app.

   • If you are not in proximity of your phone, your Session may need to be manually synced once you are back with your phone. You will need to press "sync" within the Surfline Apple Watch App.

7. Wait a few minutes while we interpret the data and generate your clips

8. You will receive a notification when your clips are ready.
