This FAQ will help you find the best cams to record Sessions.
Why aren't all cams created equal?
Surfline needs a) a ready and willing host, b) a stable power supply, c) a strong internet connection and d) an amazing view to the surf to set up a camera.
Each location varies; where we might have a stoked host, we can't establish a reliable connection. Where we've got a reliable connection, we're too far back from the waves. Where the cam would be best, there is no existing power infrastructure. This is the life of our Cam Ops dept.
Why do we have cams we know aren't good for Sessions?
Because we can still check the surf! Camera streams are the ultimate companion to our global wave forecast. As surfers, we can identify windspeed & direction, and criticize what the model is telling us without having to leave home.
How can I find a cam that will help me record a cool clip?
Sessions tab
Easy! Open the Session tab (middle bottom of app screen) and hit the map symbol in the top right corner of the Sessions tab.
Map symbol
Then, navigate the map to your area of interest and browse spots using the horizontal carousel below. Watch the screen recording demo using this feature, and see the "Rewind Rating" that indicates whether this cam is good for checking the surf or recording Sessions!
How can I get to the spot?
Once you've chosen a spot on the Cam Details map, you should see a Directions button which will enter the coordinates for the spot into your preferred maps app. Check the end of the screen recording for a demo.
