What is the Explore tab?

Great for...

  • Browsing spots geographically, getting familiar with a new area and identify which spots are working best within a region right now
  • Finding and browsing wave buoys on a map
  • Finding and browsing live wind stations on a map

How do I use it?

3 buttons highlighted in red below:

  • Top: search for a spot or region

  • Middle: be taken directly to your current location

  • Bottom: to set your home/favorite location. Whenever you launch Surfline, the Explore tab will open to the determined area.

Surf spots

Surf spots are represented by a colored dot. The color represents the surf rating, giving you an idea of where might be working. The oval shaped spot with the surf height in the middle represents the spot page you will see under Surf spots at the bottom of the page.

When zoomed out, you will notice spots are replaced by circles with a number in the middle. The number represents the number of spots within the given area.

The colored border surrounding the circle represents the surf ratings of the spots within. Click any circle to be zoomed in to the area.

How do I find Buoys or Wind Stations?

Swipe the tab up from the bottom of the screen (if hidden), and select Wave buoys or Wind stations.

Wave Buoys

Grey dots are buoys we are currently receiving live data from. The black dot represents the buoy that will be shown on the bottom of your screen. Click on the buoy from the bottom tab to open up a web pop-up with all data from the buoy.
